Pretty Slick! August 16, 2010 Amy (Salt Lake City, Utah) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I outgrew my laptop's available hard drive space so I use a larger capacity Western Digital - My Book, USB hard drive to store all of my music, photos, audio books, and home movies on. I regularly had to connect this drive to my laptop if I wanted to sync my iPod, view other media files, or save new media files.
After I received the iConnect, I was up and running with wireless access to my USB drive in less than 10 minutes. I plugged it into my wireless router, plugged the USB drive into the iConnect, installed the software on my laptop, shared the drive through the management console, and can now access my media files wirelessly on the laptop from anywhere in my house without having to lug around the hard drive and find a power outlet for it. The drive has a permanent home on the shelf next to the wireless router and iConnect, and I still have three available USB ports on my iConnect for future expansion.
I have been able to upload new pictures and video clips to the drive from my SD card when it is plugged into my laptop, view or play everything that is on the drive, sync my iPod, and over the weekend I also found I was able to stream my home movies stored on the drive to my TV. My Playstation picked up the content on the drive with no problem - bonus!

This product is exactly what I needed! Easy to set up, saw my wireless network on the first try and recognized the USB attached hard drive instantly. Was able to upload files to the drive wirelessly within 10 minutes of opening the box! Now I'm using it for my family's backup, music files and pictures so we can connect and use the files anywhere in the house. Can't wait to try to access remote through the internet. Highly recommend this one!
User-friendly and super-compact August 10, 2010 Chris 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Sheer simplicity that's what it is. Compared with most nas servers, it is more compact than the usual ones. As for Gigabit LAN it is much faster..the user management is clearly designed without many u-turns...best of all is that iam using it on my Linux too and found it equally good as it is on Windows. Int ntwrk printer access is now a lot mor convenient. Amazon's delivery - prompt and secure.
This does exactly what I needed August 17, 2010 E L M 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have 4 computers and 3 HDDs that I move around constantly so this was just what I needed. Now I can use all my hard drives without moving any of them. I have an XP system, Vista, Win 7 and a Mac laptop and this device works well for them all. Yeah, I work in the tech industry.
I had trouble checking for a firmware update (which I have not yet installed and don't know that I need it) so talked to Iomega support. Incidentally it was my cable modem at fault. I was told the first batch of the iConnect had a glitch in manufacturing that caused a bunch to hit shelves that would only blink and not work. Mine does not have this problem and they said it was fixed so no one else should see this. I just thought this worth mentioning.
The device is easy to setup and the software is painless to install. Once the software found the unit and I know the name I didn't install the software on my other systems but just map a share. (how simple) Since I only have 3 HDDs that store my data at this point, the iConnect has an additional USB port that I was not using. So I got brave and started testing. The iConnect lets me stream music from my Walkman and my Nikon is recognized too. Nice touch.
I had not found anything else to do this job when I bought this. I am very satisfied as this makes my life a bit easier.
I have not tried wireless yet but I did check and when wireless is on in my router it and the iConnect do see each other, I just don't have much need for wireless at this time. If I do more testing in the future I might be able to update this review. I don't use wireless because my neighborhood has lots of leeches that hammer my security trying to get some of my bandwidth and my best security is OFF on wireless. :-) Sorry, you probably don't care about that.
I don't know if this is still the only game in town in this arena but this unit does what it is supposed to for me and it's easy.
Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station is Amazing!! August 19, 2010 CJ 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Iomega iConnect is a great little device! I'm not very tech savy and I had no problem setting it up. I was able to upload files to the drive within minutes! Now my family has a central location for documents, music, pictures, ect. that we can access easily and quickly.
