Product Description With the latest firmware installed, you will be able to turn off the router's wireless signal altogether at certain times of the day, to save energy. The DIR-615 Wireless N Home Router connects to any modem or ISP box to provide Internet access for computers and other network equipment.Wireless N technology offers more speed, extended coverage and virtually no dead spots while still compatible with previous network standards. This router transfers data at speeds of up to 300 Mbps.Setting the router up is easy even for non-technically minded people, with D-Link Click'n Connect: run directly from the product CD-ROM, this wizard takes you through an interactive step-by-step guide that will get you on-line in a matter of minutes. It also includes a simplified method of setting up wireless encryption, the Wi-Fi Wireless Protect Setup (WPS), which works at the touch of a button.A powerful dual firewall (SPI and NAT) prevents Denial of Service (DoS) attacks and attempts to breach your network from the Internet. You can also define a list of allowed sites to restrict web access during certain periods.

No Problem with DIR-615 February 6, 2008 Billy Lee (Queens, NY) 19 out of 21 found this review helpful
I'm writing this review to help dispel the myths about this router. I read many bad reviews for this router after I ordered it. I got really anxious and started getting buyer's remorse, before I even had it in my hands. I received the DIR-615 today and immediately hooked it up, I transfered all the cables from my D-Link 'b' wireless router. I restarted my Time Warner Cable Modem and my Mac G4 computer. Everything worked fine. I checked the wi-fi connection to my iMac, which worked perfect, after I changed the network selection on the iMac. I then took my Titanium G4 Powermac to the second floor (the DIR-615 is setup in the basement). I got perfect reception 2 flights up. After checking all Wi-Fi functionality, I upgraded the firmware, from ver. 2.2 to 2.4 via D-Link's web site, all is well. no problems.
Good router December 6, 2008 S. Thomas 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've had no problems reported by others here.
I have hardware revision B2 with the latest firmware 2.25.
I didn't use the software that came with it just used a browser to configure the router. I had to select wpa/aes to get n speeds on my wireless pcs.
Setup took about 30 mins.
UPDATE
Since writing my review I ran into some problems. The problem appears to be with the DHCP server on this router. Clients are unable to connect unless you have DHCP turned on on the router, if you turn on DHCP clients loose connectivity after a while.
After some experimentation this is what worked for me -
- Turn on DHCP
- Once all your clients (PC's) acquire an ip address turn off DHCP and set the ip address on the PC's manually ( turn off DHCP on the PC but not on the router).
- On the router add all your PC's to the DHCP reservations list You will find this under Network Setup.
This seems to be be working for me for over a month.
Great! Easy Setup. April 8, 2009 LINDA M. LAROCK (Northern New York) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I was concerned I would struggle with the set up but it took less than 10 minutes to set up and use. I followed the cd instructions and it was easy! Even the security set up was a breeze! Great range. Very pleased.
Great Router, Easy Set-Up August 24, 2008 J. Fukuda (Seattle, WA USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Despite the many neutral to negative reviews, I'm having a very positive experience with this router. It was easy to set-up and install (I didn't have to use the install CD). I recommend using the install CD if you're unfamiliar with basic networking. I'm not by any means a network genius.
My favorite features was the automatic recognition of my SlingBox Pro and XBOX 360. On my previous router (Actiontec) I had to find tutorials by the manufacturers in order to manually input the correct port forwarding settings. This DLink automatically recognized and I'm guessing set the correct port forwarding information because both work perfectly.
For $39.99 (Amazon.com, Circuit City as of 8/24/08) this N router is a steal!
So far so good, the only thing I'll be concerned about is the quality - some previous reviewers mentioned that it worked, but then it broke...
Overall, highly recommended.
Couldn't be happier June 11, 2008 Ryan Ellis (Ft Lauderdale, FL) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
So I dumped my Netgear wireless G router -- as it was dropping wireless connections like crazy, and constantly needed to be rebooted to work.
I liked D-Link in the past, and decided to go with Wireless N as my new laptop supports it.
This router was cheap, and it seems most of the bad reviews are from people who just can't figure out how to setup a router (it's easy).
So, some people are ripping on the setup disc... I wouldn't know anything about it, I never actually touched it.
For anyone even remotely familiar with routers, this d-link is plug and play. Plug it in, and it works instantly. To set it up, ignore silly discs, and just log in directly to the router, D-Link has a wonderful admin panel.
Just go to 192.168.0.1 and no password is required for your first log in. Setup a password on it, then go to wireless setting, create a WPA Personal password for that (if thats what you need) and voila, you have secured, wireless internet, all setup. I had mine working completely in less than 5 minutes.
This router hasn't dropped a signal yet in over a week of use, with multiple wireless connections and all 4 wired ports being used (TiVo, playstation, personal computer, network hard drive)... Hasn't skipped a beat... fast internet.
So please ignore the "can't set it up" reviews, throw the install disc away and just plug your computer in and use the onboard admin panel (d-links is VERY good).
Highly recommend -- especially for the price.
p.s. - I don't know much about the range, I have a 1200 square foot condo and it's full bars through the whole thing - so no complaints, if you have a larger house, you may want to consider the extended range version of this router.
D-Link rocks!!!!
